I recently had my second trip of the year to DC. It is a little rough to fly all day Monday, have meetings all day Tuesday and Wednesday and then fly back West Wednesday night, so this time I headed out on Sunday so I could acclimate to East coast time. I also wanted to visit with my friend from Bainbridge who now lives in Arlington, VA. I stayed at a Kimpton hotel, Downtown Washington DC Hotels | Donovan House, a Boutique Hotel in DC. It was such a beautiful room and I loved staying there. They have a gorgeous deep bathtub and a funky "cocoon" shower. I have a feeling that most of the time it is just too expensive for me though. I got lucky this time, must have been out of season. The thing I love about Kimpton hotels is that they are always beautiful, but they also have a nice wine hour each night in the lobby.
Monday afternoon, a colleague and I took the afternoon and headed out to Mount Vernon. The grounds and the house are peaceful and beautiful. I'll definitely go back. We took public transport there. Totally doable for about 5 bucks but give yourself time since it's metro, bus (which runs about once an hour) and the same on the way back.
Monday night we had reservations at the West End Rasika. Rasika Restaurant – West End. If you like Indian and go to DC, you MUST go to Rasika. Make sure you make a reservation!
You should try the crispy spinach, the eggplant (picture below), the smoked lentils and the chicken tikka masala (picture below) We also had the goat cheese kulfi, otherwise known as naan.
All in all it was a successful if somewhat expensive trip. Heading back in June. Wonder what that trip will hold for me.
