I've had an amazing time in London, and Paris yesterday. It's brought back so many memories - all good, thankfully. I'll be sad to leave but it's time to get home and I'll be glad to get home. My class at Leith's was wonderful all around. Our final day was taken up making Tarte Tatin and monkfish with Hollandaise - both amazing in taste, just like a restaurant.
I learned that the difference between Hollandaise and Bearnaise is the glace de viande in the Bearnaise - how did I not know that?
In Paris, of course, I had to stop at Angelina's for hot chocolate. My goodness, it was just as rich as I remembered it, and to top off all of that sweet, whipped cream. Like the chocolate needs anything else!
I was a little disappointed in the Christmas decorations in Paris. I remember the trees on the Champs d'Elysees were covered with sparkling white lights and this year, or maybe prior years too, they did modern-ish rings of light around the tree. But the Eiffel Tower was still spectacular as always.
Finally, this morning I made it to Harrod's. I had to stop in the food court and pick up some treats and have a smoked salmon platter and some champagne. Exactly the way a Sunday should start. And tomorrow I am off back to the US. i'll sure miss London!!
